@Mick - great stuff. Funny you should mention Eckhart Tolle - I bought "The Power of NOW" about 2 weeks ago and totally get what you are saying. Love the analogy by the way.

Hey Clay. Profound words. My journey into awareness began about 3 years ago. Partly due to Eckhart Tolle's words of wisdom, and my own life experiences (kids, health and general life)

Interestingly - I wrote this on Friday afternoon .....

Our body is like a car's body. It carries us around in life.
Our heart is like the engine. It makes sure we keep moving.
Our mind is like the dash-board/ central onboard computer. It processes and records things, and allows us to make sense of where we are at.
And (our real self) is the passenger - driving the car.

Well that's the way it should be. But here's what happens:

The mind thinks it's driving the car, and takes over, like an auto-pilot.
And we end up just sitting there inside the car, being driven around - often powerless. Wondering, is this all there is too life?

The trick is this:

Grab the wheel. Turn the autopilot (mind) 'off' , so you can steer your life yourself.
Pick a destination, and start driving towards it. No matter if you get detoured along the way, or hit a few speed-bumps.
Sitting in the parking lot, waiting doesn't help

And to remember that we are 'not the car'. But the person sitting inside!

It's easy to look at a 'flash' car and be seduced by it's appearance and speed and ......
It's harder to connect to the person driving it.

Whew.... there you go!

Hi Clay,
I enjoyed your post, thanks! (To be honest, all but the title...) ;)
Good reminders to focus on what's really important. I want to share them with a couple people in my family. And also be one of those contagious, happy people!

sincerely,
skye

PS - If you happen to have any suggestions where I can connect with folks who might be interested in funding business development centers in Africa (starting in Burundi), that would be amazing. :) Thanks!

@Vaso - Thanks for your comments. I am sorry to hear about Nik's parents. Someone else has told very me very similar information which is just so sad. I hope for their sake Nik can make amends.

@Hayley - You raise a very interesting and timely point (pun not intended). I have been thinking about "being in the present and enjoying 'now'" a lot recently and I actually planned to blog about it today and then was spun out to your your comment. I agree with a lot of what you have said. Hopefully my next bog post will mirror a lot of what you have said.

PS - Just checked out your site. My wife will find it very interesting, I will forward it on to her.

Clay, I know Nik and he has not only lost your money but that of his parents, they lost their home and all assets. Now in there old age approaching retirement they should be enjoying life instead they are in rented premises. And for Nik no remorse, what is he up to, borrowed money and off to Vegas to win World Series Poker...What a loser!!!
